One of the things to consider before your first visit to the gynecologist is the amount of knowledge you already have about your reproductive system.
Educating yourself beforehand can help you ask crucial questions about your reproductive health. Some other factors you should also put into consideration before visiting this professional are:
As a woman, an OBGYN is one of the professionals you will surely encounter. However, the stage of life you are when that happens is what will determine the kind of gynecological care you get. Teens and women in their 20s may receive care in areas like birth control, STDs, and fertility. On the other hand, women over 30 may be more focused on issues like their level of sex drive, vaginal dryness, and hormonal changes.
In the case of menopausal and postmenopausal women, their OBGYN care may include performing yearly pap smears until late in their 60s. Pap smears or pelvic exams are one of the services offered by gynecologists however, many doctors don’t believe it is necessary until you are above 21 or sexually active. Therefore, your age determines the kind of examination or OBGYN care you get.
The age of the patient also determines the level of confidentiality between them and their gynecologist. For patients under 18, some important issues concerning their reproductive health will have to be discussed with their parents or guardian.
Another factor to consider before seeking gynecological care is the experience of your doctor. You can find as much information as you need about the gynecologist on their website. Some of the things to look out for are their school of study, certification, years of experience, hospitals they are affiliated with, specialties, reviews from previous patients, presence of complaints or malpractice suits against them, and many others. This information helps you choose the right professional to administer gynecological care to you.
This is another important factor to consider when seeking the services of an OBGYN. In a situation where your preferred doctor is out of your network, you may have to pay for their services out of your pocket and this may not be convenient. Therefore, before seeking the services of a gynecologist, you should check your insurance plan to know the gynecologists in your city that are included in your network.
Aside from just knowing the hospital, your gynecologist is affiliated with, you should also go further to make research to ensure that they maintain a high standard. The hospital plays an important role in your gynecological care because this is where you will deliver a baby or carry out tests and treatments concerning your reproductive health. To evaluate this hospital, you should look out for the number of people who experienced complications or infections after surgery. You should also look out for the death rates for different procedures and the reviews of previous patients.
Lastly, getting recommendations from trusted sources can help you tremendously in your search for a gynecologist.
An Obstetrician-gynecologist or OB-GYN is a doctor whose specialty is in women’s health. These doctors are focused on helping women through the different changes and biological functions experienced throughout their lifetime. Obstetrician-gynecologists offer help with menstruation, fertility, childbirth, and menopause.
A Gynecologist is a medical professional who focuses on providing routine care to women. A gynecologist treats women-specific diseases and disorders. On the other hand, an OB-GYN has experience in both obstetrics and gynecology.
Fertility doctors are Obstetrician-Gynecologists who have taken extra training on fertility issues. A fertility doctor, after training to become an OB/GYN and reproductive specialist continues training and education in infertility and reproductive endocrinology. This added training can take an extra three to five years.
I really liked the way Paige Shabro talked directly to my daughter, she asked my daughter if she had any questions and answered them directly. It’s never easy for either parent of child when discussing birth control. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Dr.Connor is truly amazing. She always takes the time to explain things and make me feel comfortable. Even though she is busy she always makes sure she has time to talk with me and put me at ease, always finding an answer to my questions. She is thoughtful and kind, along with all of her staff and nurses in the office!
I made an appt here after being dissatisfied with my other ob, who refused to put me on the bc I preferred. Everyone here was so nice and you could tell they enjoyed where they worked. I was seen on time and was in and out fairly quickly. I also felt that their medical and background questions were the most thorough out of any doctor appt I’ve been to. Very happy!
Quick service, friendly staff and it’s always good to have a doctor with a good personality and who takes the time to answer your questions with impeccable knowledge.
Dr. Arbogast patiently answered all my questions and made me feel at ease.
I got an answer to my problem and was able to be just two days after I called for an appointment. My Rx was available shortly after my appointment. Thank you.
I met Dr Connor at the Emergency Room when she was on call. I had had an emergency that needed surgery asap. She was so down to earth, listened to me & made me feel at ease. I am glad she was the one on call that day 🙂
Got me in at last minute. As always, staff was friendly and professional!
